Smart zone when temperature change

Updated at 2020-06-20 07:28:44 UTC

Dear Junglim,

Netro automatically creates dynamic watering schedules according to local weather, so if you turn on the smart zone feature for your zone, season adjustment will be made with smart watering schedules, for example when the temperature is low it will automatically cancel all the watering activities. When temperature is over 90 degrees, the evaporation is higher so Netro will water more.

User Guide - Manual watering with your Pixie timer

Logo
Netro Inc
Updated at 2020-06-22 07:37:55 UTC
Topic: General, Netro App

The Pixie timer is designed for automatic watering. However, occasionally you may still need to turn on/off the water manually. Before explaining manual watering from the app, it would be helpful to understand how the Pixie communicates with the Netro cloud server.

By default, your Pixie turns on its WiFi module once every hour to sync up with the server. The sync-up usually takes less than one minute. For the next 59 minutes the timer will be sleeping and disconnected from the WiFi until the next sync. When the timer is sleeping, it is unaware of the schedule changes, including the manual watering.

Therefore, when you start a manual run, the timer is most likely in sleep mode. It will have to wait until the next sync-up to start the watering. The waiting time will be less than 60 minutes. Take the following screenshot for example:

The current time is 5:24AM and the next sync is scheduled at 6:17AM. Therefore the waiting time is going to be 53 minutes. After you press the Start button, you can go to the Schedule page and the manual run at  6:17AM will appear on your calendar.

Had the same problem.

Go to Settings>Zones>Zone 1>Smart Zone>Soil Moisture. Change the settings for both low and high. Set low to 75. Set high to 85. You can adjust these as necessary to your desired watering pattern.

I use a program for morning, noon, and night. It waters at 8 am, 2 pm and 6 pm for 15 min. Then the weather will fill in any adjustments needed. I have new grass that is 5 weeks. It seems to work well. Hope that helps.

If you go to  settings then zones, then pick a zone you use from there hit smart zones and then hit mode, From here you can chose from  8 different watering options from frequent smaller amounts to heavy (extra). When you do this just go back one screen and it will show the average number of days in between and for how long it waters. You can even change it (frequency and amount) for each zone which is extremely helpful. Your question just happened to be what I just realized how to do this without using a custom schedule literally 15 minutes ago myself. Lol Hope this helps

Dear customer,

The zone area is used for calculating water usage and it will not affect watering amount. Could you please let us know which zone only watered for 1 or 2 min? Could you please send us email to support@netrohome.com with your Netro account registered email?

We will look into this issue.

Thanks

Rain Delay

Netro Inc
Updated at 2020-06-10 07:42:23 UTC

Dear customer,

As you set the rain threshold "0.1" inch and days to skip as "rainy day", Netro will skip your watering schedules when the reported rain amount is larger than 0.1 inch. Netro skipped your schedules on June 8. Could you please let us know on which day Netro still watered your zone even it's raining? Rain amount was less than 0.1 inch reported by Accuweather expect on June 8 and perhaps the weather provider is not accurate. You can  find the historical rain data here https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/denver/80203/june-weather/347810?year=2020&view=list

If Accuweather does not work for you, you could try other weather source in settings->controller->weather provider.

Of course, all weather forecast could be wrong. Netro tries the best to provide accurate watering schedule even with incorrect forecast. First, we periodically update the weather data, once the weather data is changed, we update the un-executed schedules ASAP. Second, we re-check the weather data for the past, update our model, and adjust following schedules accordingly. For example, Netro may not water today due to large rainfall from forecast data. The next day, Netro re-check the weather data, if no rainfall found and your soil is dry enough, Netro will water accordingly.

It would be great if you add an option for notifications once irrigation starts/finishes.Sometimes we need to start it manually and need to wait until one zone is completed to start the next one. A notification in the phone would avoid opening the application all the time to see if the current zone is completed.

Skipped watering on calendar and the system still watered...

If you want to skip smart schedules on the "schedule" page, please click the schedule, then select "skip all zones". If you select "skip this zone", Netro may water other zones on that time.

Smart scheduling problem with sensor watering adjustment configuration

The Moisture to Skip watering 50% constraint forbidden smart schedules as well. When the moisture is above 50%, Netro will not water your yard. Generally speaking, 50% is too low. You could increase the value.

Dear customer,

If you want to water more frequently, we suggest you try the "Frequent" mode(settings -> zones -> SmartZone -> Mode -> Frequent.) You can also choose "customized" mode to adjust watering by providing the preferred moisture level and flow rate of your sprinklers.

if you do not want the smart watering to override your own programs, you can set mart watering level as "basic". (Settings->Zones->Smart Zone)

Confused about schedule

Netro Inc
Updated at 2020-08-05 01:51:22 UTC

Hi Bowie,

Your zones are watered multiple times a day, you probably selected clay, clay loam or loam as the soil type which accepts water slowly, often as little as 1/4 inch per hour and that is why we break the watering into many pieces to avoid water runoff.

For your zone 4, the watering duration is about one hour because you selected shrubs as your plant type. Shrubs require deeper watering with less frequency because they have longer roots and can absorb moisture from deeper soil, while annual flowers and grass needs to be watered more frequently.

We just noticed you have disabled the smart zone feature so the rain delay feature will also be disabled. If you still want to use smart watering and water zone 4 more frequently, you can set it via settings -> zones -> SmartZone -> Mode -> Frequent.

If you still need the rain delay feature and do not want smart zone schedule to override your own programmed schedule, you can set up the Smart Zone level from Advanced to Basic, which only skip rainning days for your programmed schedule.(Settings->Zones->Smart Zone)

We noticed that you have just install the sensor for few days. Any possible the soil is very wet recently due to rain or irrigation? Our sensor has self-learning capability, but could take 1-2 weeks to learn. If it's still very high later, please report to us.

To give more details about my IFTTT experience with Netro :

As you can see by reading the IFTTT log, I asked to water at 6:07 and the start watering event came at 6:42. I asked to stop watering at 6:13 and it was triggered at 7:10, almost one hour after.

Best regards,

Christophe

IFTTT - Watering Schedule

Logo
Netro Inc
Updated at 2020-09-11 04:12:00 UTC

Dear Christophe,

Netro IFTTT returns local time for convenience, where the time zone is determined by your device address. The API returns

1. date: local date

2. start_time: local start time, please use only the time part and ignore the date and time zone part if any.

3. end_time: local end time, similar with above.

We have checked the API, it seems OK. For example, you have a schedule on 2020/09/10, from 06:00am to 06:28am, the API returns:

{"device":"Pontaillac ","zone":1,"date":"2020-09-10","start_time":"2020-09-10T06:00:00.000Z","end_time":"2020-09-10T06:28:00.000Z","source":"SMART","status":"EXECUTED","meta":{"id":94827648,"timestamp":1599710400}}

Please note that "2020-09-10T06:28:00.000Z" is not UTC time, only use the "06:28:00" part, although system may add date and timezone part automatically.

Please let us know if you have more concerns.
