If you worry about slope, you could tell Netro in the zone settings (settings -> zones -> slope -> steep). Netro will take care of it (basically, reduce the watering time of each run to avoid run offs). You could also add your own programs with short watering time (e.g. 5 minutes).
If you do not want to plant grass, shrubs are an alternative. Typically, they are more drought resistant.
