How to replace an old controller with more than 12 zones

Netro Inc
Updated at 2019-11-06 09:20:19 UTC

If your old controller has more than 12 zones, you will need to have 2 Netro controllers to replace it. Please follow the diagram below to safely wire the 2 controllers:

Now you can use the 2 C slots for the common wires and the 2 sets of 1-12 slots for the zone wires. If you do not have a master valve or pump, just ignore the orange wires.

IMPORTANT: the blue wire has to be connected to the left 24VAC on both controllers and the yellow wire has to be connected to the right 24VAC on both controllers.

Please contact us if you need the wire connectors shown in the picture.

Installation Direct to pump

Tim Foster
Updated at 2019-10-03 11:23:32 UTC

OK. I have my plumber installing this. Unfortunately, this is México and so beyond the basics, most plumbers are struggling about in the dark. We've figured most of it out, but we're a bit in the dark on a couple of bits.

I have the following:

A ground source well with a Franklin Electric submersible pump as my water source. This pumps directly from the ground to the zone controller.

The zone controller is an Antelco EzyValve4 solenoid (https://antelco.com/us/products/valves/automatic/ezyvalve-4). This has a water input and four zone outputs. Each of the four solenoids has two wires and their website shows how to connect 1 of the wires together as the common and then the other four for each controller. This is all good.

The problem is power to the pump. The Netro installation video says "if you have a master valve, connect that to the M slot". I googled a bit and found "A master valve is an automatic valve that is installed at the point where the irrigation system connects to the water supply. (Sometimes this circuit is called a “pump start circuit”. Both types of circuits work identical, and can be used for a pump and/or a master valve.) The controller turns the master valve on and off."

So, does this mean I connect the power from the pump directly to the "M" slot? and would this then turn on the pump when a zone is opened for watering? So, Zone 1 comes on to water the garden, does this also switch the pump on?

From what I understand the pump will be 110v, so do I need a relay unit between the pump wire and the Neatro (24v)?

Can anyone give me a confirmation that this is the right way to configure it please?

New Whisper not reporting

Derrick
Updated at 2019-09-04 17:11:14 UTC
I recently ordered a second whisper and installed it the same way as the first one I received (which is still working fine)  It connects just fine and I can even change the color of the LED for a while.  But it reported only once to the app and that was it.  I have tried reconnecting it to WiFi, I even deleted it in the app and reinstalled it with no success.  After the initial connection it seems to just stop working.

Sprite doesn't open valve

Updated at 2019-08-06 20:38:31 UTC

I'm doing a first installation with an 100-HV-FF 24V ACRain Bird valve.I connected the wires to the C and 1 connector to serve zone 1. I populated the zone in the app. Because I want to test the system before I disassemble my previous I did not install the valve between the pipes. I click the "play" triangle in app home screen but I get no reaction from the valve. The solenoid is completely closed. I am using the 24V AC/AC adapter bought on your website.

Does the valve need water flowing through to work properly?

Thank you

Adapter in EU

Updated at 2019-07-01 11:06:15 UTC
Hi,
I am Lukas from the Netherlands. I have ordered a Netro sprite-6 on without a power adapter.
In the Netherlands we have 230V AC on the power grid. I am having serious trouble to find a power adapter that goes to 24V AC 800mA.

The only one I can find has an output of  24V AC 1000mA, will that be ok?

Or is there a better alternative out there?

Thank you,

I have a Sprite that refuses to connect to my Google WiFi.  Even with the router in the garage with it.

It will connect to a mobile hotspot on a cell phone.  Is there a known issue for Google WiFi?  I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps without any luck.

Configuration for Netro Sprite suggestions requests

Tony D.
Updated at 2019-06-14 22:30:14 UTC

I am interested in buying the Netro Sprite sprinkler. I read several reviews and they are all pretty good. I noticed that many state that the sprite is not able to water two zones at the same time. Is this something limited by project and wanted or do you think it could be upgraded with a software upgrade?

I wanted to ask you some questions about my garden layout. I attach a planimetry for convenience.

The garden consists of two pieces surrounded by railings with a central railing too. The one on the left side is about 70cm lower then the one on the right side.

The two big areas are covered with lawn. At the left side border there are 8 laurus nobilis plants (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurus_nobilis) while at the right side border there are 8 Trachelospermum jasminoides plants (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trachelospermum_jasminoides).

Based on your experience how many zones would you create. At first I thought to go with three zones: one for both lawn plots, one for the laurus and another for the Trachelospermum. My doubt is I need to split the two lawn plots into two separate zones. How would the inability to operate different zones at the same time affect the watering and would the Sprite handle different times automatically or would I need to intervene manually?

My last question is about the Whisperer sensor, how many of them would you place in the garden?

Waiting forward to your suggestions,

Tony

Connecting Hunter PVG-Valves

John Mayer
Updated at 2019-05-01 15:57:37 UTC

Hello,

I am trying to connect my Hunter PVG 101 GB valves to my new Metro Sprite.

I haven't installed a watering System before so I am quite a newbie here.

I have managed to set my Sprite up. But my valves aren't working.

I have double checked my wires. No issue there. As I am living in Germany I have bought my own power supply. It's this one: INNOVATE LED Trafo ECO 24 Volt/DC, 0-50W - LED Treiber - Transformator - Netzteil - Driver (24V - 50W) https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01AALEYR8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_LgCYCb2PT86Y9

Are there any recommendations, what I could do wrong?

Thanks so much,

Instructions about Replacing Hunter System

Netro Support
Updated at 2019-03-20 08:08:36 UTC

Replacing Hunter system

This page lists some instructions about replacing the common types of Hunter system with Netro smart watering controller.

Example 1:

To replace this controller with Netro smart watering controller, please follow the instructions.

The white wires are the common wires which should be connected to the C slots in Netro. Then the zone wires (1,2,3, .. 12) are directly mapped to the 1, 2, 3 .. 12 slots in Netro. The last step is to connect the power (the ground wire is not needed for Netro) then you should be good to go. The power adapter wires are the 2 yellow wires on the left side.

The green one below the yellow wires is the ground wire which is not needed for Netro.

The copper wires are rains sensors which are not needed for Netro either because Netro gets the weather information from WiFi network.

Example 2:

For this system, please connect the white wire to any one of the C slots in Netro. You can leave the M slot of Netro smart watering controller and one of the C slot unconnected.

The last step is to connect the power. The power adapter wires are the 2 yellow wires on the left side.

SEN are rains sensors which are not needed for Netro either because Netro gets the weather information from WiFi network.

Example 3:

Please connect the white wire to any one of the C slots in Netro. You can leave one of the C slot unconnected.

This system has 3 wires which connects to 24v lines. To replace it with Netro smart watering controller, you can use the existing 24V power(the yellow wires) for your Sprite. It looks like the thinner 2 are the ones but you might just want to try them on Sprite. Or you can use a voltage meter to determine.

If the thinner yellow wires turn out to be the power, than I think the thinner white wire is the common wire which should go to the C slot in Sprite.

SEN are rains sensors which are not needed for Netro either because Netro gets the weather information from WiFi network.

Example 4:

You should connect the white wire(currently on RS) to one of the C slots in Sprite.

You do not need to connect the black wire(currently on C) and the brown wire(currently on RS). RS terminal is the rain sensor. Therefore, you do not need to connect these wires.

Example 5:

The white wire is the common wire which should be connected to one of the C slots in Netro. The power adapter wires are the 2 black wires on the left side.

RS terminal is the rain sensor. Therefore, you do not need to connect these wires.

Example 6:

The white wires is the common wires which should be connected to one of  the C slots in Netro. The power adapter wires are the two black wires on the left side.

The green one below is the ground wire which is not needed for Netro.

You do not need to connect the rain sensors because Netro get the weather forecast through WiFi.

Example 7:

You do not need to connect the blue one (remote). You can just leave it dangling but please use the tape to cover the metal head. The remote feature in Sprite is through the WiFi.

I am not sure about the red and white one. These are the two AV power wires. Normally there is only one wire for AC1 and one wire for AC2. In your case, it looks like the AC power is also sent to another device. The safest way to handle this is to keep this original connection. You might want to "noodle" the wires and insert them into the two "24 VAC" slots in Sprite. Please check out this connector for wire junctions:

Replacing Toro system

This page lists some instructions about replacing the common types of Toro system with Netro smart watering controller.

Example 1:

Toro model gk212-04

1. Connect the 2 white wires to the C slots, one on the left and the other on the right which is now occupied by a red one.

2. Move the red wire(currently on C slot) to M slot because it is for your master valve.

3. The last step is to connect the power then you should be good to go.

Example 2:

Toro IC 8.

The first slot of your current controller is master valve which should be connected  to "M" slot of Netro. The two wires in the second slot are common wires should be connected to the 'C' slot of Netro. The last step is to connect the power then you should be good to go.

Example 3:

Toro Model 53765 6 zones

The red and white wires are the commons wires and should go to the two "C" slots in Netro Sprite controller. You do not need to connect the gray and black wires as they are the power wires for the old controller.

Updated at 2019-03-20 08:06:44 UTC

Replacing Rainbird system

This page lists some instructions about replacing the common types of Rainbird system with Netro smart watering controller.

Example 1:

The common wires which should be connected to the C slots in Netro.

The Sprite controller does not need the ground wires. It does not need the rain sensor either. You can leave the M slot unconnected.

Example 2:

The COM wire goes to any C slot in Sprite.

The M slot will be empty because you do not have master valve.

The two red wires on the left go to the two 24 VAC slots.

Others are straightforward.

Example 3:

1. the COM wire in RainBird go to any of the C slots in Netro

2. The 1-6 zone wires in RainBird go to Slot 1-6 in Netro

3. Use the power adapter coming with the package for Netro

Other wires you can disregard them.

Example 4:

12(blue) and 11(red) go to the two AC slots on the right side for Netro. 10(white) goes to any one of the C slot in Netro. 9(black) goes to the M slot in Netro. 8-1(red) go the ZONES in Netro. You can leave the green wire (GND) open. The two leads from the power adaptor go to the two AC slots.

Instructions about Replacing Old Controller

Netro Support
Updated at 2019-03-20 08:03:05 UTC

Replacing old system

This page lists some instructions about replacing old controllers with Netro smart watering controller.

Example 1:

I check the pictures.

Here is how you connect to your sprite:

OLD                 Sprite

24VAC             24VAC (order does not matter)

COM                any C slot

1                     1

2                     2

3                     3

4                     4

You probably do not need to connect other wires.

Example 2:

You do not have a master valve so you just leave the M slot open.

The sensor wires are not needed either in the Sprite because it gets the weather data from WiFi network.

Example 3:

If you are using the Netro power adapter, the two thick beige wires should not be used because they are the 24 VAC power wires from your old power adapter.

However, you probably can use these two beige wires on Sprite. Just hookup them on the 2 24V AC slots in Sprite on the right side. I would suggest using a voltage meter to check the voltage on them though if you go this way.

Example 4:

1. The VC wire goes to any one of the C slots in Sprite

2. The 1-8 wires go to 1-8 slots in Sprite which is straightforward

3. Use the Netro power adaptor to connect the 24VAC in Sprite

Other wires are not needed.

Example 5:

The 8 zone wires will go to the 1-8 slots in Sprite.

The C wire will go to any of the C slots in Sprite.

You can leave the M slot in Sprite on unconnected.
